Musical Fidelity has unveiled the B1xcd, a home CD player scheduled for release “from October 2026.” The company describes its price as “incredibly attractive.” Its recommended retail price is €599, which TechRadar says is about $670, £500 and AU$1,000.
TechRadar compares the price with the recently launched Oppo A7 Pro Max smartphone, which it says costs the same. It also notes that a Rotel Michi player tested last year costs ten times as much, while a SACD player covered the previous week costs a hundred times as much. FiiO launched a much cheaper player in September that can also rip discs.
The B1xcd is designed for a home hi-fi setup rather than portable listening. It has a metal chassis, an LCD screen for track information and aluminum control icons, and weighs 5.8kg. Its built-in ESS DAC is designed for audio CDs, and the player supports Red Book CDs, the original CD format specification created in 1980.
For connecting to other hi-fi equipment, the player has analogue and digital outputs, including RCA, coaxial and optical connections.
