Microsoft Teams to add AI-powered phishing detection in November 2026

Microsoft plans to add AI-powered phishing detection to Microsoft Teams, using conversation context to identify suspicious behavior, including in external first-contact chats.

The company described the feature in a Microsoft 365 Message Center update. It is designed to identify phishing, social engineering, impersonation attempts and deceptive intent, even when messages lack traditional warning signs such as malicious links or files. Microsoft said additional protection may apply in certain regions or scenarios.

The feature is listed as in development, with a scheduled rollout in November 2026. It is expected to become generally available to Microsoft Teams users worldwide. IT administrators will not need to take action to enable it.

Microsoft said the capability will be used only for security protection, not for productivity, summarization, advertising, user monitoring or other non-security purposes. The company also said customer message content will not be retained by the detection system for model training or other secondary uses.

The update does not specify which AI platforms will power the detection.
