Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano Controller, a compact, rechargeable gamepad that launches on November 4. Pre-orders are open at $49.99 / £44.99. Microsoft describes it as its “smallest controller.” It measures just over 5 inches and weighs 3.5 ounces, and the company says it is lighter and shorter than most modern smartphones.
The controller includes all 18 standard Xbox gameplay inputs and is designed to fit in a pocket. Microsoft says it may suit younger players, people with smaller hands, or anyone looking for a portable controller. Games named in the announcement include Minecraft Dungeons 2, Grounded and Forza Horizon 6.
A rechargeable battery and programmable Action Button are also included. Players can customize the button for screenshots, gameplay capture and other shortcuts. Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth support allow connections to compatible devices.
Microsoft has also partnered with Samsung on a US holiday offer for new members who buy select Samsung TVs: an Xbox Nano Controller and a 2-month Game Pass Ultimate offer. A separate US offer with Meta includes an Xbox Nano Controller and a 2-month Game Pass Ultimate subscription for new members who purchase a Meta Quest. The announcement does not specify the offers’ full terms.
