Meta turns Muse sharing back on after fixing URL issue

Meta has re-enabled sharing in Muse after pausing the feature over a problem with URLs for shared artifacts, according to a post by Meta executive David Singleton on X.

Security researchers at Claroc reported that links to shared Muse conversations could be easy to find. They said they had found pages including a marketing company’s internal revenue review and a small business owner’s loan application. Claroc reported that shared conversation URLs were based on conversation titles and written into public DNS.

Ars Technica reported Tuesday that Meta had paused sharing after the publication contacted the company about the issue. Singleton said the underlying issue was fixed and that sharing was back on.

Meta said the problem affected URLs for shared Muse artifacts, such as documents and images, rather than chat sharing itself. Singleton said artifacts shared before the fix now have new URLs. Visitors to old links see a note asking them to request the new link from the person who shared the artifact. He apologized for the disruption and said protecting user data had to come first.
