Marissa Mayer’s Dazzle AI Assistant Builds Context From Photos

Marissa Mayer, the former Yahoo CEO, is introducing Dazzle, a personal AI assistant that draws its context from a user’s camera roll rather than text-heavy apps such as email, calendars and shopping histories. The company raised an $8 million seed round last December, according to TechCrunch.

Dazzle has two main functions. It can scan recent photos for details to help with immediate tasks, such as adding an event from a flyer to a calendar or finding a repair person after spotting a broken garage door. It also analyzes a photo library to suggest personalized ideas, including vacations and birthday gifts.

Mayer said Dazzle inferred from her family’s photos that they enjoy escape rooms and suggested several locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. In a TechCrunch test, the assistant recommended Mediterranean destinations based on the writer’s past trips to Spain and Greece, and also suggested Sicily, where the writer had visited four years earlier. The writer also found a limitation: Dazzle did not recall that her daughter already knew how to roller skate.

Mayer said Dazzle prioritizes privacy and discards personal information its AI flags as sensitive. The article notes that the assistant is not yet as broadly useful as some other offerings. Mayer previously founded Sunshine, whose photo-sharing app Shine launched in 2024 and later shut down.
