Kali Linux 2026.3 is available, marking the distribution’s third release this year. The update adds six new tools, refreshes build scripts and brings desktop environment changes.
The Kali Team updated 126 packages, added new libraries and upgraded the kernel from 6.19 to 7.1.5. Kali is available as an installable operating system or a live environment, and supports hardware including Raspberry Pi devices and Android phones through Kali NetHunter. It is designed for ethical hackers and cybersecurity professionals conducting red-team exercises, penetration tests, security assessments and network research.
The desktop updates include KDE Plasma 6.7, which adds new icons and includes performance and integrated Intel GPU power-usage improvements. It also brings workflow changes such as per-screen virtual desktops, allowing separate workspaces on one desktop. Other changes include quicker movement between desktops from Overview, continued support for additional Wayland protocols and portals, the ability to duplicate network connections, and refinements to System Monitor.
The release also refreshes scripts used to build official Kali images. The scripts aim for more consistency across platforms and now support Docker and Podman containers. Not all scripts were updated in time for this release; the team aims to refresh the rest for Kali 2026.4 and says automation is a planned next step.
