A jailbroken PlayStation 5 has been used to run a local artificial intelligence model, though the setup comes with limitations, according to Wccftech.
The project, called “PS5LM,” reportedly ran Qwen3.8-27B, a large language model with 27 billion parameters. The experiment shifted work from the CPU to the GPU to free memory. The PS5 has 16GB of GDDR6 memory and 448GB/s of bandwidth, but the project initially limited available memory to 6GB. An optimized port increased that allocation to 11.4GB.
Wccftech reports that a Reddit user, u/metover, introduced an unofficial version of llama.cpp to get the experiment running. The source says smaller models can reach speeds of 124 tokens per second, while offering no further details on the models or conditions behind that figure.
The result shows one way to run local AI software on modified console hardware, but the memory limits and other compromises remain. The source does not specify those other limitations.
