HBO chief Casey Bloys has raised questions about the future of Lanterns season 2 after saying that only one DC Universe (DCU) TV show is officially in active development.
Speaking to Deadline, Bloys said DC Studios is being selective and careful about which projects it greenlights. He identified The People v Gorilla Grodd (TPvGG), the recently announced Superman spin-off, as the only TV series currently in active development and said it had just started shooting.
When asked about other shows, Bloys replied, “not right now.” His comments contrast with the six small-screen projects announced for DCU Chapter One in January 2023. Four more series were later added to the list of potential candidates, but only one has been greenlit. Waller and Paradise Lost have reportedly been shelved, while Booster Gold remains in development.
TechRadar's Tom Power notes that Lanterns, led by Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler, still has three episodes of its debut season left to air at the time of publication. DC Studios has also assembled a writers room to discuss ideas for a possible eight-part second season, but no second season has been promised. Pierre is set to appear as John Stewart in Man of Tomorrow, due next July.
