GTA 6 malware spreads before November 19, 2026 release

Security researchers are warning about fake Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) downloads ahead of the game's scheduled November 19, 2026 release.

Huntress said it recently observed a malware variant distributed through websites, gaming forums, torrenting sites and social-media channels. The campaign uses SEO poisoning to promote ISO files presented as copies of the unreleased game. The files can contain remote access trojans, infostealers and ransomware.

During installation, a message in Russian claims that the product is unlicensed and may not work. Users are then directed to a Gmail address for an “updated crack”. After installation, a popup says “License not found”. Huntress described the messages as a distraction intended to hide the malware installation.

The campaign gained additional attention after a person using the alias LEEK claimed in late August 2026 to have obtained a playable build of GTA 6 and posted screenshots and videos. The researchers said the unreleased status of the game creates fertile ground for scams targeting impatient users.

Huntress added that the malware variants found in the ISO files are not new; some are several years old and can be detected by many antivirus programs, including Windows Defender.
