Google to wind down AI coding agent Jules

Google is winding down Jules, its AI coding agent, as it consolidates its agent work around Antigravity. The company said in a post on X that Jules will be phased out while it focuses on a unified Antigravity experience.

Google described Jules as an experiment to learn how asynchronous coding agents could help developers ship faster. Although Jules as a product is being discontinued, many of its tools will continue under Antigravity, the company said.

Users can finish ongoing Jules sessions until November 11, 2027. After that date, the service will switch to read-only mode for existing projects. Google has also introduced an export process that lets developers save account settings, environment variables, scheduled tasks, connected repositories, memories, setup scripts, and session data, including prompts, plans, activity logs, and code patches, to a local folder.

Google has not disclosed Jules’ overall popularity. It previously said thousands of developers tested the service during its beta phase. TechRadar reports that Jules faced competition from OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and other tools. Google says it plans to apply what it learned from Jules to its broader agent strategy under Antigravity.
