Google is testing firmware version 3.79.550760 for several older Nest speakers through the Google Home Preview Program. The company has not announced a release date, and early access requires signing up for the program.
According to Google’s release notes, the Nest Audio, Nest Mini, Google Home and Google Home Mini are set to receive improvements to audio, smart-home controls, setup and connectivity. The update also includes general performance and stability improvements, along with fixes related to media streaming, volume and Wi-Fi issues.
The notes also mention “Google assistant entry experience improvements.” TechRadar suggests this may refer to Gemini, which Google is making the flagship voice assistant for its smart-home technology. That interpretation has not been confirmed by Google in the information provided.
The Google Home Max and Google Home Speaker are listed for bug fixes but not the broader set of improvements. TechRadar speculates they may already be running the firmware; Google’s release notes, as described in the article, do not establish that.
The update is being tested as Google makes changes to its Nest smart-home lineup. The article also notes that Google recently unveiled a Home update for video doorbells, security cameras and Automations.
