Google says some Android apps may not run smoothly on Intel Googlebooks

Google has acknowledged that some Android apps may not run smoothly on its new Intel-based Googlebook laptops, despite making the apps available through the Play Store. The company made the statement to Android Authority on the day the laptops went on sale.

Google said the vast majority of Android apps run smoothly on both Intel and Qualcomm Googlebooks out of the box. It said a small number of complex apps or games may need developer tuning to perform well on Intel platforms because many Android apps were originally designed for Arm chips. Google said it is working with app developers, Intel and Qualcomm to improve performance and compatibility across its range of laptops.

Google has not said how many apps could be affected or named any specific ones. Of the five Googlebook laptops that went on sale, three models from Acer, Asus and Lenovo use x86 Intel chips. The Dell and HP models use Qualcomm Snapdragon processors based on Arm. The Verge reported that it plans to test all five laptops and report any specific issues it finds.
