Google launches Gemini app for Windows 10 and 11 with Alt + Space shortcut

Google has released a dedicated Gemini app for Windows 10 and 11, giving users a keyboard shortcut for accessing its artificial intelligence assistant without opening a browser.

Pressing [Alt] + [Space] launches Gemini from anywhere on the PC. The shortcut can replace Windows’ system-menu function and Microsoft PowerToys Run, which also uses [Alt] + [Space]. The app can connect to Gmail and Drive.

Users in eligible countries who subscribe to Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra can also assign multi-step tasks to Gemini Spark, Google’s personal AI agent. The Windows app includes web-version capabilities such as creating custom images with Nano Banana and making high-quality videos with Gemini Omni.

However, the app permanently shows the user’s location at the bottom of its left sidebar. The source report says there is no obvious way to remove it, apart from closing the sidebar. The app also lacks Gemini Live, the voice mode available on mobile through iOS and Android. Users can instead take screenshots, upload them, and ask Gemini about their contents.

Google says more native desktop capabilities will roll out over time. The Gemini app is available globally for Windows 10 and 11 users.
