Fujifilm Instax Mini 13 adds a self-timer to its selfie-focused instant camera

Fujifilm’s Instax Mini 13 is a new entry-level instant camera and the latest update to the company’s long-running lineup. It keeps the 60mm f/12.7 optical-grade plastic lens and close-up mode found on the Instax Mini 12, while adding a self-timer normally reserved for more expensive models such as the Instax Mini 99.

The lens is equivalent to approximately 35-40mm and works best for close-up photos and selfies. The camera uses ISO 800 film and a shutter-speed range from 1/2 a second to 1/250 a second, so well-lit spaces are preferable. Its automatically adjusting flash is most effective between 30cm and two metres. Loading an Instax Mini Film pack of 10 and turning the lens dial are all that is needed to start shooting.

The self-timer can be set to two seconds with one rotation of the dial, or 10 seconds by holding it down. A blinking light shows that it is active, but there is no separate countdown indicator. The rounded, ribbed design weighs 376g without batteries, film or strap and comes in five pastel colors: Candy Pink, Frost Blue, Clay White, Lagoon Green and Dreamy Purple.

The camera launched in Australia on March 31, followed by the US and UK on June 25. UK pricing stayed at £79, while US pricing rose 18% to $94 and Australian pricing rose 16% to AU$139 compared with the Instax Mini 12.
