Former Xbox chief operating officer Helen Chiang says she has “serious concerns” about how she was treated after leaving Microsoft. In a lengthy LinkedIn post, she did not dispute that she was fired but did not give a reason for her dismissal.
Chiang left Microsoft less than two weeks ago, after being promoted to the role in July. She had worked at the company for 21 years. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced her departure in a short memo.
Eurogamer reported last month that Chiang was “terminated for policy violations.” Chiang says that account is “not accurate.” She also denied rumors that she leaked confidential information or left to join a competitor. Chiang denied engaging in discrimination, bullying, harassment, insider trading, embezzlement or other fraudulent activity.
Chiang wrote that she believes standards of fairness and accountability should be applied consistently, and said she has concerns about how they were applied in her case. She also wrote that this was not how she imagined her story at Microsoft would end, and that it was “not the whole story.”
The Verge said it asked Chiang whether she was pursuing legal action against Microsoft and asked Microsoft to comment. The company had not responded by publication.
