Fellowmind hires more junior staff as AI reshapes tech work

As artificial intelligence changes the skills employers need, it may also make it harder for people to enter the technology industry. Swedish IT consultancy Fellowmind is responding by hiring more people early in their careers.

So far in 2026, Fellowmind has hired 58 people in Sweden, including 21 classified as junior employees, or just over 36%. Chief People Officer Kajsa Norell told Techtidningen that this is a significant increase from the previous three years, when the share of junior hires was much lower. Around half of the people hired during the autumn came directly from education or had graduated less than a year earlier.

Norell said the company has not set a formal target for junior recruitment. She cited the knowledge from recent education, curiosity and familiarity with new technology as reasons to bring in early-career staff. She also said candidates are asked about their views on AI and how it can be used, and that recent graduates are often more accustomed to discussing AI after encountering it during their studies.

Fellowmind’s New Fellow Program adds technical and consulting-role training to its standard onboarding. Junior employees also receive mentors, often colleagues who entered the industry only a few years earlier, and are given practical project work. Norell said the company works mainly in project teams, where experienced colleagues support junior consultants and Fellowmind remains responsible for delivery quality.

She acknowledged that clients often ask for specialists with experience on similar assignments. But she argued that fast-changing systems and AI can make past experience less directly relevant, and said consulting firms also need to help train the next generation.
