Epic Games has released a preview of its rebuilt Epic Games Launcher, with Linux support arriving alongside versions for Windows and macOS. The company says the new launcher starts faster and responds more quickly than its current app. Wccftech reports that Epic claims startup is 1.8x faster than Steam.
Epic introduced the preview with a joke about “vibe coding” the launcher, saying programming is hard. The company also describes the early release as light on features, while noting that it includes a shopping cart.
The preview adds dedicated game pages with status, activity, details and play controls. Players can connect PC libraries, organize collections, switch between grid and list views, and customize the top bar. Search and filtering work as users type. A download view shows download, read and write speeds and lists active, queued, scheduled and failed downloads.
Epic says Fortnite will come to Linux through the launcher after it rebuilds Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) and works with enough Linux distribution maintainers to meet security requirements. It says it plans to make the EAC improvements available to other developers as well. Epic recommends that competitive players and developers with live projects continue using the current launcher during the preview.
