Elvenite CEO Outlines Six Steps for AI Strategy

Swedish companies are testing AI widely, but many struggle to turn those efforts into business value. Elvenite CEO Mathias Dyberg says the obstacle is often organizational: leadership and business processes need to change, not just technology choices.

Elvenite’s AI Leadership Index 2026 gave Swedish companies an average score of 39 out of 100 for operational AI maturity. AI is appearing in more parts of organizations, but is rarely integrated into core processes and business-critical workflows. The survey identified six gaps, including leadership, governance, business value and skills.

Dyberg said companies should start with business needs rather than a model or product, involve employees, and consider how solutions will continue after pilots. He said a single high-level goal is not enough: teams need smaller objectives and a clear understanding of how their roles may change. He also said boards and executive teams must help set the strategic direction; the CIO should not own AI development alone.

Dyberg recommends planning how an initial use case could connect with other processes, roles and systems without assuming the entire AI journey can be mapped in advance. He said strategy should focus on flexible architecture because models, services and features keep emerging.

He said AI value should be measured through business process improvements, such as less waste, shorter lead times, better forecast accuracy and fewer manual steps. Projects near transaction-heavy processes connected to business systems are among those succeeding best, he said, where people, data and AI can work together.
