DoorDash has received only “several hundred” orders from AI agents

DoorDash said it has received only “several hundred” orders from third-party AI agents, even as debate grows over whether agents will reshape online commerce. CEO Tony Xu shared the figure during the company’s third-quarter earnings call.

Xu said that users still predominantly place orders through DoorDash’s app. He described agent-based ordering as a dynamic area and said the company wants to learn more about how people use agents and build a healthy relationship with third-party agent makers, including Muse, Instinct and Fo. Xu also said DoorDash could have an opportunity to advertise within agents in the future.

For comparison, DoorDash reported in 2025 that it completed an average of 3 million deliveries per day. The company has also introduced its own ordering tools: a text-to-order agent launched in September, a CLI agent introduced in July, and Ask DoorDash, a chatbot launched in June that lets users place orders using prompts and photos. DoorDash also released an MCP to support corporate ordering from other chatbots.

Agent-based ordering remains an evolving area, with websites deciding whether to let agents access their content. The source reports that Amazon has blocked personal agents, while Walmart has welcomed them as it seeks business from competitors.
