CleanYourTV 3.0, an open-source project for Android and Google TVs, now supports 300 models and is designed to remove unwanted ads and preinstalled apps.
The project began on October 17, when developer Gathin (@gathint) shared an experiment on X involving his parents’ Xiaomi TV. Sponsored ads appeared before they could launch Netflix, according to the source. Using Anthropic’s Claude Code, Gathin connected to the TV over Wi-Fi, disabled 25 Xiaomi packages and created a replacement launcher with a minimalist interface.
The project’s stated aim is to give users more control over their televisions by removing unwanted preinstalled software and replacing cluttered home screens with an interface inspired by Apple TV. The source describes CleanYourTV as a rapidly growing open-source project, but provides no further figures on its adoption.
