ChatGPT can now create animated GIFs from a text prompt or an uploaded photo, according to The Verge, which cited information from OpenAI. Users can adjust animation speed, edit individual frames and share the result.
The update is rolling out alongside OpenAI’s Images 2.6 model. The Verge reports that ChatGPT previously could not generate a GIF natively in a single step. An example shared by OpenAI shows a GIF made from the prompt “can you make a gif of a cat dancing?” Users can change its playback speed and view it frame by frame.
OpenAI says Images 2.6 also speeds up image generation in ChatGPT. The company says users now generate more than 4 billion images per week across ChatGPT and its API, up from the 3 billion per week it reported in September.
Images 2.6 is rolling out to all ChatGPT and Codex users on the web and in desktop and mobile apps. OpenAI is also launching GPT-Image-2.6 Flare and Sunburst in its API for faster and higher-quality image generation.
