ChatGPT and Perplexity have appeared among the five most-scraped websites in new research from Decodo, as businesses collect data from AI platforms to track brand mentions and citations.
ChatGPT ranked third and accounted for 14% of the scraping activity observed in the analysis. Perplexity ranked fifth, accounting for 10%. TikTok led the list with 18%, or nearly one in five of the observed scrapes.
Decodo CEO Vaidotas Juknys said businesses once scraped the web to learn what people searched for, but now scrape AI platforms to see what people are told. The research also found that seven of the top 10 sites were new entrants. TikTok, Google, in second place, and Amazon, in eighth, were the repeat entries.
Walmart, eBay and Airbnb were among the sites in the 2025 top 10 that dropped out. Decodo said the data also reflects changes in where consumers shop, including through AI and social media. The company expects Gemini and Copilot could enter next year's top 10. Juknys added that AI agents might make decisions about what to scrape next year, rather than only reading the answers.
