Borderless Gaming, a tool sold through Steam for running games in borderless windows, now offers a way to apply Nvidia DLSS 5 to PC games, according to TechRadar. The developer describes the feature as “DLSS 5 Neural Rendering for Everyone.”
The app does not include the effect by default. Users must install Borderless Gaming, then download the DLSS5-NR v0.2.1 effect from GitHub and follow its installation instructions. The developer says the effect runs through Borderless Gaming’s BGFX pipeline, without replacing game DLLs, modifying game files or requiring a game-specific mod.
This is a workaround, not native DLSS 5 support, and results can vary. The developer says it works with a wide range of GPUs, beyond the officially supported RTX 5000 models. An RTX 3090 can typically reach around 30fps with DLSS 5 enabled, though performance depends heavily on the game and graphics settings.
Borderless Gaming has been available for a long time, but some recent Steam reviews criticize the DLSS 5 move. TechRadar also notes uncertainty over whether Nvidia might act against projects that modify how the technology is used. The article says DLSS 5 drew controversy when announced, while reception warmed after it appeared in NBA 2K27.
