Boox’s Picco e-reader is expected to launch in November

Boox has shared more details about the Picco, a tiny e-reader inspired by the Xteink X4. The company is expected to launch it in November, but has not revealed a price.

The Picco will have a 3.97-inch touchscreen e-paper display and physical page-turn buttons. Users will be able to customize the buttons for different actions depending on whether they use a short or long press. Unlike Xteink devices, the Picco will not have magnets on its back for attaching to a phone.

The device apparently has no onboard storage and will rely on a microSD card for books. Reading material can also be transferred directly over USB-C or through WiFi using a companion app. The Picco will not run Android. Instead, it will use a stripped-down, Linux-based OS with additional apps including a timer, a todo list, and a reading stats tracker.

Boox has not confirmed the price, battery life, Bluetooth support, or whether the Picco will include an audiobook player. The company is also unlikely to make its firmware as open as Xteink has, which could limit hacking and customization.
