A Ryzen 7 9800X3D owner says a BIOS update lowered the processor’s temperature from 95°C to 86°C and stopped thermal throttling that had persisted for more than a year. Wccftech reported the user’s account; the result has not been independently verified.
The report concerns one user, so it does not establish that a BIOS update will resolve high temperatures for other Ryzen 7 9800X3D systems. The source says temperatures of 95°C are not uncommon for the processor, but suggests a BIOS bug may have contributed to this case.
AMD’s Ryzen 7000 and 9000 series processors can reach temperatures above 90°C under full load, according to the source, particularly among X3D models. It also says AMD’s X3D processors are generally rated for a maximum operating temperature 5°C lower than non-X3D chips.
