Bank of America Hired 1,000 Contractors to Patch Flaws Found by Anthropic Mythos

Bank of America hired 1,000 contractors in the second quarter to help patch software flaws identified by Mythos, Anthropic’s artificial intelligence model, CEO Brian Moynihan told CNBC. The contractors are still working with the bank, alongside 3,000 people already in the area, he said.

Mythos was introduced by Anthropic in April 2026. The company described it as capable of autonomously finding and exploiting previously unknown software vulnerabilities, and restricted access to a small group of vetted organizations.

CNBC reported that Moynihan told analysts the bank had spent “a couple hundred million plus” on fixing bugs and addressing regulatory issues. He said the increased spending was temporary, explaining that the need for patching should fall once vulnerabilities are addressed.

The Next Web linked compliance spending to penalties of more than $1.21 billion announced on 13 October. It reported that federal regulators said the bank had failed to report suspicious transactions worth $5 billion and complete steps ordered in 2024.

Other financial firms are also assessing Mythos. JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said the bank had hundreds of people working full-time on preparations with peers and vendors. Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon said in mid-April that his company was working closely with Anthropic. Mozilla said Mythos found 22 security-sensitive bugs in one testing round, while Palo Alto Networks found more than two dozen critical vulnerabilities in about three weeks.
