ASUS Waives $1,100 Repair Fee for 2023 ROG Strix G16 After Short-Circuit Failure

Wccftech reports that ASUS waived a quoted $1,100 motherboard repair fee for a customer whose 2023 ROG Strix G16 suffered a catastrophic failure.

According to the report, numerous accounts have linked the 2023 version of the gaming laptop to a design flaw that can cause motherboard failure through a short circuit. The customer was initially quoted $1,100 by a non-ASUS service center after the laptop failed.

The customer’s persistence led ASUS to provide a free motherboard replacement. Wccftech also reports that ASUS applied a small piece of tape to the replacement ROG Strix G16 motherboard to help prevent the short-circuit problem from happening again. The report does not establish whether the change addresses every affected laptop.
