Apple has introduced its Apple Home Collection, a new range of smart home devices designed to work with HomeView, the company’s smart home hub for controlling connected accessories and using apps.
The lineup includes a smart deadbolt lock, a video doorbell, a thermostat, a temperature sensor and security cameras. Apple says it developed the devices with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. The products are expected to become available in December.
The smart lock costs $349.95 and supports ultra-wideband (UWB), which can detect proximity more precisely than traditional Bluetooth. Apple says this could let the lock recognize an approaching authorized user and unlock automatically. The wired video doorbell costs $249.95 and can show visitors, monitor activity and send notifications. Its chime can sound through HomeView, HomePod and HomePod mini, and users will also receive notifications on iPhone or iPad.
The temperature sensor reports conditions in individual rooms. Apple is also introducing indoor and outdoor cameras, plus a floodlight camera priced at $399.95. Camera features include live viewing, motion detection, intelligent alerts and video storage.
The products could help Apple compete with Amazon Ring and Google Nest in connected home security.
