Apple says Siri AI may have usage limits

Apple executives have indicated that some Siri AI features may eventually come with usage limits, with expanded access available for a fee. The company has not said how much that access will cost or how it will fit into iCloud+ tiers.

During Apple’s Q4 2026 earnings call, CFO Kevan Parekh said it was too early to predict the costs of using a mix of on-device and cloud processing. On-device processing is efficient, he said, while server-side use brings inference costs. Apple recently made Siri AI available to more users, and is still assessing demand and computing needs.

Siri AI launched in English in mid-September as part of the iOS 27 update. It uses both on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute. Apple says its cloud models are what count toward usage limits, which may vary based on the feature, request complexity, system demand, policies and other factors. Expanded access to those features will be offered for a fee in the future, according to the release footnotes.

That could mean more complex requests and image-editing features face limits, while lighter tasks handled on-device remain available. Apple has not specified the limits or fees. Its AI image tools include Image Playground and features powered by AFM 3 Cloud models.
