TechCrunch’s Sarah Perez tried Siri Recaps, one of four Audio Intelligence features in testing in the first developer beta versions of iOS 27.3 and watchOS 27.3. The features are for Apple Watch Series 12 wearers and include sound detection, song identification, Live Rewind and Siri Recaps.
Sound detection can recognize alarms and doorbells, while song identification uses Shazam technology. Live Rewind lets users review what was said in the previous 15 seconds. Siri Recaps transcribes or summarizes conversations and saves notes of details it considers important.
In Perez’s test, Siri Recaps captured information shared verbally when she dropped off a car for repairs and picked up a rental, including the deductible, repair time frame and rental’s starting fuel level. But it also grouped those details with family errands and schedule discussions, and saved less useful conversation, such as a plan to watch midterm coverage on TV.
Apple says the features process audio and run AI models on-device when possible. They do not identify speakers, store raw audio files or retain certain private information, such as government ID numbers or personal account information. Perez found the automated notes useful, but said the recording could feel invasive. She would like separate notes for unrelated topics, a way to delete individual recap items, and an option to export saved recaps automatically to Apple’s Notes app.
