Apple refreshes the iMac with M6 chips

Apple has introduced a refreshed iMac with its new M6 chip, ahead of the company’s “Pro and Tell” event scheduled for Wednesday. The all-in-one desktop starts at $1,499. Its design otherwise appears largely unchanged, according to The Verge’s Jess Weatherbed.

The M6 is the same chipset Apple launched with the Mac Mini in August. Apple says it is the company’s first 2nm chip and includes a dual 16-core Neural Engine intended to boost performance on on-device AI tasks.

M6 iMac configurations start with a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. That is an increase from the 8-core CPU in the M4 iMac. Apple last overhauled the iMac with the colorful M4 generation two years ago, so this refresh skips the M5 series on this hardware. The source says that could make the upgrade more meaningful.

The source article is marked “Developing.”
