Apple has limited its new Pro controls and third-generation Photographic Styles to its latest iPhones, while extending free satellite connectivity for older devices.
The features are available only on the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Duo. Owners of the iPhone 17 series and earlier models cannot use them. Pro controls let users adjust white balance, aperture, and shutter speeds manually, and consult histograms. Photographic Styles are presets and filters with controls for grain and texture.
Apple has also extended free satellite coverage for another year to devices in the iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 16 ranges. The company originally launched satellite features with the iPhone 14 in 2022 and said it would receive two years of coverage. Apple has since repeatedly extended the free terms for the iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 16.
The extension covers Emergency SOS via satellite, Messages via satellite, Find My via satellite, and Roadside Assistance via satellite. Apple has not said how much it might charge if free coverage ends. For now, older iPhone owners can keep using these satellite features without upgrading, while the new camera tools remain limited to the latest models.
