Anthropic is struggling to secure enough cloud capacity from AWS, Google and Microsoft, which increasingly see the maker of Claude as a competitor as well as a customer, according to a leaked S-1 filing reported by The Wall Street Journal.
The filing adds detail to figures reported by Reuters and the Financial Times in late September. Anthropic believes it could spend more than $750 billion on cloud contracts, including deals still under negotiation. The company is also leasing its own data centers and working with third-party operators, but worries that some have a “limited operating history” and may be less reliable than major cloud providers.
The reported filing says Anthropic recorded an $80.7 billion net loss in the first half of the year, while generating $16.3 billion in revenue. Two customers accounted for about a fifth of sales, according to the WSJ report.
Last week, Anthropic told prospective investors that third-quarter revenue had reached $16.8 billion, up 45% from the previous quarter. The company is reportedly targeting a November IPO.
The filing also warns that Anthropic could be held liable for damages caused by harmful AI behavior at a level exceeding its available insurance coverage. Anthropic did not immediately respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment.
