Android Central will continue publishing after its staff was laid off, according to its owner, Future. The Android-focused blog’s staffers said they were not told whether the site would shut down.
Four of the six people listed on Android Central’s staff page publicly posted about the layoffs: Shruti Shekar, Derrek Lee, Harish Jonnalagadda and Nicholas Sutrich. Former senior editor Namerah Saud Fatmi also updated her LinkedIn profile to indicate that her time at the site had ended. Lee, the managing editor, and Sutrich confirmed that all remaining staff had been laid off.
New posts appeared on the site the following day, written by freelance contributors rather than the previous full-time staff. Future spokesperson Nicole Martineau told The Verge: “Future will continue to publish Android Central. We’ll share further information about the future of the site in due course.” She added that the company would provide no further comment at that time.
Android Police, another Android-focused blog, also recently laid off at least two staffers. Its site lists an editorial team of four. Valnet, which owns Android Police and previously purchased The Verge’s sister site Polygon, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
