Amazon has unveiled two Bee products that use AI to turn conversations into summaries and actions: the Bee Frontier wearable and the Bee Eclipse, a magnetic attachment for smartphones. Amazon acquired Bee, a startup whose earlier product recorded audio and converted it into searchable text.
The Bee Frontier costs $74.99. Styled like a fitness tracker, it can be worn on clothing or an included wristband and has up to seven days of battery life. Its dual microphones record when the prominent button is switched on. The Bee Eclipse costs $99.99 and attaches to the back of a smartphone. Both devices use the same transcription software and Bee app.
Amazon says Bee can create summaries and recaps in its app or desktop app, with templates for uses such as lectures and meeting minutes. The devices include a 14-day memory. A Bee Pro subscription costs $11.99 per month and adds unlimited recent conversation summaries, integrations including Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook, suggested to-dos, daily memories, a chat assistant, templates and the desktop app. Amazon.com integration can surface products mentioned in conversations as shopping recommendations.
The company says audio is never stored, recording is button-operated with an LED indicator, and transcripts are encrypted. The source article notes that it remains unclear whether these privacy assurances will be enough for widespread adoption.
