Ahold Delhaize services disrupted by cyberattack in US and Europe

Ahold Delhaize said a cyberattack disrupted services at stores in Europe and the United States, forcing the retailer to take some systems offline. Its stores remained open, but some brand websites, apps and other services were affected.

The company said most store websites and apps in Central and Southeastern Europe are back online. Albert Heijn’s website and app have also returned, and home deliveries are expected to resume from Friday, October 23. Etos and Gall & Gall websites are available, e-commerce in Belgium is fully operational, and e-commerce services at Ahold Delhaize’s US brands are expected to return in the coming days. Some systems and services for European and US brands remain unavailable.

Ahold Delhaize said it notified the Dutch National Cyber Security Centre within 24 hours of discovering the malicious activity and has provided updates to authorities. It has filed a police report in the Netherlands. The company said its ongoing investigation has found no evidence so far that sensitive customer, employee or partner data was stolen. CEO Frans Muller apologized for the disruption.

The incident follows a November 2024 attack on the company’s US systems in which personal, financial and health information belonging to more than 2.2 million people was stolen. Ahold Delhaize operates 9,551 stores and says it serves 77 million customers each week. It employs more than 384,000 people.
