Amazon replaces Grubhub with Uber Eats for Prime members

Amazon has made Uber Eats its restaurant delivery partner for Prime members in the United States, ending its commercial agreement with Grubhub. Under the partnership announced Thursday, Prime members can order food through Amazon.com and the Amazon Shopping app without creating an Uber account.

Members will pay no delivery fee on orders over $25, the companies said. During the first two weeks, Amazon and Uber are offering Prime members $20 off their first order of $25 or more.

Amazon said it regularly evaluates third-party offers and identified an opportunity to improve the restaurant delivery experience. Its relationship with Uber also includes agreements involving cloud computing, Zoox robotaxis, and integration of Uber Eats with the AI-powered Alexa+ assistant.

Amazon first partnered with Grubhub in 2022, giving Prime members a free Grubhub+ subscription. Two years later, it made the membership an ongoing Prime benefit. Amazon also had an agreement with Grubhub’s then-owner, Just Eat Takeaway.com, that could increase its equity stake in Grubhub by as much as 18%. Just Eat Takeaway later announced plans to sell Grubhub to Wonder. According to Just Eat Takeaway’s annual report, Amazon elected in December 2024 to cash out its outstanding exercisable warrants.

Grubhub could not be reached before publication. TechCrunch said it would update its article if the company responds.
