Meta acquires AI coding startup Conductor

Meta has acquired Conductor, a startup whose AI coding platform lets users deploy multiple agents in parallel workspaces. The acquisition was first reported by Axios. Meta confirmed it to TechCrunch but did not provide further details.

Conductor founder and CEO Charlie Holtz announced the deal on Wednesday. He said the company had plans for a new interface and teased something for customers to use by early next year. Holtz also said he looked forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta Superintelligence Labs.

Founded in 2024, Conductor launched its core product last summer. Its agent teams can run in the cloud, locally, or through a user’s phone, helping engineers work on separate parts of a project. The agents come from major AI labs, including Anthropic and OpenAI, rather than being developed in-house.

Holtz said Conductor’s core features would continue to work as before until early next year. Its cloud service will shut down on November 20, after which the company will begin deleting user cloud data.

Meta launched its own coding agent, Muse Code, in August. The company recently reported that its Muse agents had surpassed 10 million users. It has also made several AI-related acquisitions over the past year, including the viral agent platform Moltbook.
