EICMA Show Highlights More Affordable Electric Motorcycles

TechRadar’s Leon Poultney reports that this year’s EICMA show in Italy featured several electric motorcycles and scooters aimed at prices closer to petrol-powered alternatives.

Zero Motorcycles unveiled Project Ventura, a supermoto-inspired street bike. The company says it will offer more than 20 kW of power, a sustained top speed of 65 mph, a momentary 81 mph for overtaking, and an estimated real-world range of 75 miles. The article says the rumored target price is under $8,000. Zero also revealed the LS3 scooter, with a short-burst top speed of 75 mph and a stated range of 93 miles.

Yamaha introduced the Nmax E, an electric scooter on a new A1 EV platform. Its 7.5 kW motor produces around 10 hp, and its 3.5 kWh battery is said to provide around 65 miles per charge. Yamaha also showed the Xenter E, a battery-powered alternative to its high-wheel scooters.

The report says Swedish electric utility vehicle maker Cake is returning under founder Karl Ytterborn’s new company, ReBake. Its first model, the Abler, is designed to carry cargo and can be fitted with accessories. Two approved speed classes include a 50cc-equivalent version and a light-motorcycle version capable of up to 50 mph. ReBake is targeting a price of around €4,000 for lower-powered versions, with the A1 version costing slightly more.
