Dyson W1 PencilWash adds tougher scrubbing and longer runtime

Dyson’s second-generation W1 PencilWash wet floor cleaner adds tougher scrubbing, a larger removable clean-water tank and longer battery life, while keeping the original model’s lightweight design. TechRadar’s Cat Ellis reviewed the cleaner.

The microfiber roller now has stiffer bristles to tackle stubborn dirt, and a metal comb is designed to remove tangled hair from the roller. The clean-water tank detaches for filling and has more capacity. Dyson also redesigned the dirty-water tank to make emptying less messy. The review says floors were dry and ready to walk on almost immediately after mopping.

In tests with dried juice, ketchup, flour, toothpaste and hair, the cleaner handled flour, dried juice and ketchup in a single pass. Dried toothpaste took about four passes to remove completely. The reviewer found that hair could wrap around the small wheels beneath the floorhead instead of being caught by the roller and comb. The W1 PencilWash is a wet floor cleaner, not a vacuum, and has no suction.

Dyson announced the W1 PencilWash at its Dyson Unveiled event in September 2026, and launched it globally in October 2026, nine months after the original PencilWash. Its list price is $349.99 / £299.99, the same as the original’s launch price. The review notes that Dyson had reduced the original PencilWash to $199.99 / £179 in the US and UK. The W1 PencilWash was not yet available in Australia when the review was written.
