Massachusetts-based CircuitHub says its robotic factory, called The Grid, can deliver some circuit board orders faster than manufacturers in Shenzhen, China. The company describes the coordinated system as “one large robot.”
Mobile platforms carry boards between stations for solder paste application, component placement, heating, soldering and automated inspection. Machine learning models, AI agents and optimization software coordinate the work. CircuitHub says the setup can handle multiple board designs at once without reconfiguring a conventional production line.
In one comparison provided by CircuitHub, an order for five assembled motor-controller boards costs $630 through The Grid, including delivery to a US address in four days. The company puts the equivalent Shenzhen order at about $465 after shipping and US import tariffs, with median delivery in nine days. The comparison covers one order and comes from CircuitHub; it does not establish performance across manufacturers generally.
CircuitHub says The Grid has operated commercially for five years. The company reports delivering more than 2.2 million circuit boards, installing over 150 million components and serving 26,000 engineers. It also says orders exceed current capacity and that it plans to increase capacity fivefold this year, with another major increase in 2027.
