Meta plans to release the final operating system update for its Quest 2 and Quest Pro virtual reality headsets by March 2027, the company announced. The update is planned to be v213.
After that release, Meta will continue providing security patches and critical bug fixes for the headsets through the end of 2027. Apps that support Quest 2 or Quest Pro can be submitted through December 2027, Meta says.
Meta described Quest 3 and Quest 3S as “now the baseline for Meta VR gamers.” The announcement comes ahead of the planned launch of Meta’s new VR Glasses, scheduled for sometime in spring 2027.
Meta said Quest 2 and Quest Pro laid the foundation for the platform and that millions of people still play on them. It said Quest 3 and Quest 3S offer apps more performance headroom and built-in mixed reality, and that apps made for those headsets carry forward to Meta VR Glasses, which use the same operating system and software development kits.
Meta launched Quest 2 in 2020 and Quest Pro in 2022. It discontinued both products in 2024.
