BYD is preparing a large luxury electric sedan under its Yangwang sub-brand, according to TechRadar. The vehicle, codenamed “Project Hu,” has appeared in teaser images and videos that suggest it is undergoing final testing. Its design has been compared with Rolls-Royce models and the BMW i7.
TechRadar reports that the sedan is expected to be about 5.5 meters long and may have rear-hinged coach doors. Its powertrain has not been confirmed. Speculation points to Yangwang’s quad-motor architecture and DiSus active suspension.
The car could be among the first production vehicles to use BYD Group solid-state battery technology. BYD executive vice president Stella Li said in a recent interview that the company’s first solid-state battery vehicle will debut in 2027. TechRadar says that timing could align with the rumored launch of Project Hu. The vehicle is expected to be unveiled in Dubai next month, though its launch details have not been confirmed.
Prices are rumored to start in the two million yuan range, equivalent to about $300,000, £225,000 or AU$430,000, according to Electrek, as cited by TechRadar. CarNewsChina, also cited by TechRadar, reports that Yangwang already sells its U8 SUV in the Middle East for 659,900 AED, or around $180,000, £134,860 or AU$256,420.
