Intel described silicon photonics as a “golden hammer” for next-generation systems, according to Wccftech. The company presented the technology as a way to accelerate high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI).
Intel said it is the only high-volume fabrication facility able to deliver 300mm indium phosphide (InP) photonics at scale to the wider industry. Wccftech also reported that Intel discussed its fabrication capacity and integration tools during OCP 2026.
The presentation included Intel’s work on integrating lasers with near-packaged optics (NPO). The source describes this as part of the company’s silicon photonics approach, but does not provide further technical specifications or a deployment timeline.
Intel’s statements were presented at OCP 2026. The “only” capability claim is attributed to Intel, as reported by Wccftech.
