Apple will release macOS 27 Golden Gate on September 14

Apple has announced that macOS 27 Golden Gate will be released on September 14 as a free upgrade for compatible Macs.

The update will not support Intel-powered Macs from before 2020. Apple’s recently announced M5 and M6 Mac mini and Mac Studio models are expected to ship with macOS 27 preinstalled when they begin shipping on September 22.

Artificial intelligence is a central focus of macOS 27. Siri AI is set to gain more capable conversations and the ability to handle multi-step tasks, including creating events and reminders through Calendar. AI features are also coming to Spotlight, while Visual Intelligence will provide information about what appears on the screen. Image Playground is receiving improvements as well.

Apple is also adjusting parts of macOS 26 Tahoe, including the Liquid Glass interface. Users will be able to change transparency effects, which may make the interface more comfortable to use.

Apple presented macOS 27 at WWDC 2026 and promised performance improvements, particularly for system responsiveness. The company has not yet provided a complete compatible-model list in the supplied information.
