Amazon-branded cargo plane overruns runway at Miami airport

A cargo plane bearing an Amazon logo overran the runway during landing at Miami International Airport on Sunday, Sept. 6, around 2 p.m. local time, according to an FAA statement.

The FAA identified the aircraft as 21 Air Flight 7598, a Boeing 767-300 cargo plane that had departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After leaving the runway, the aircraft crashed into vehicles. Multiple injuries were reported, but the extent of the damage and seriousness of the injuries were not clear at the time of publication.

Flights at Miami International Airport were grounded after the incident. More than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units were deployed to the scene. According to reports, the aircraft was on fire and producing heavy smoke when MDFR arrived.

Video posted by NBC 6 showed the Amazon logo on the plane’s tail and thick smoke rising from the area where the aircraft stopped on the other side of the road from the airport.
