Anthbot R7 Series robot mowers add EdgeEase trimming and infrared animal detection

Anthbot presented its R7 Series robot mowers at IFA 2026 with two notable features: the EdgeEase string trimmer and an infrared sensor for animal detection.

EdgeEase uses a robot arm mounted on the mower’s side. It follows winding lawn boundaries and is designed to provide zero-gap edge cutting without manual touch-ups. The arm folds away when it is not needed. TechRadar saw the system demonstrated on an AstroTurf lawn, without actual cutting. A camera monitors the trimming arm, although Anthbot has not added protective casing.

The infrared sensor is designed to detect thermal signals from animals such as hedgehogs hidden in grass, allowing the mower to avoid them. For regular mowing, the R7 Series uses two floating cutting discs that adjust to uneven ground. Its all-wheel drive uses four drive motors and two independent steering motors.

Navigation combines LiDAR, RTK, and three AI-backed cameras, including the trimmer camera, for positioning intended to remain available when satellite signals are blocked. Anthbot says the series is designed for real gardens rather than idealized, flat lawns.

The series includes two models. The R730 is intended for lawns up to 3,000㎡ and includes the string trimmer as standard. The R720 has a smaller battery, is intended for yards up to 2,000㎡, and offers the string trimmer as an optional extra.
