Spotify is expanding its Taste Profile tool to Premium users in the US over the age of 18. The feature is rolling out in beta on September 23 after a test run in New Zealand.
Taste Profile shows Spotify’s interpretation of a listener’s music taste and streaming habits. Users with beta access can find the tab in the sidebar by tapping their profile image.
The tool also lets listeners communicate directly with Spotify’s recommendation system. They can type requests such as “show me more experimental pop” to adjust suggestions on the Home page. Users can also say what they want to see more or less of, and may be able to remove entire genres from their recommendations, although the source describes that capability as a possibility.
Taste Profile can be used for podcasts as well as music. Listeners can enter topics they want to explore, prompting Home-page suggestions for relevant shows or episodes.
Spotify already lets users remove individual songs from their Taste Profile and use tools such as “Don’t play this artist.” The feature may be particularly useful for newer users or people whose recommendations include AI-generated music, while experienced users may need less adjustment.
