Bose’s first wired earbuds in 11 years add noise canceling

Bose has announced its first wired earbuds since discontinuing the option in 2015. The Bose Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds add active noise canceling to a tethered design that does not need charging.

The earbuds are available to preorder from Bose’s online store for $99 in black, white smoke, and a limited-edition green color called dewdrop mint. Bose says shipping is expected to start on October 15, while its online store lists October 13.

Two microphones on each earbud work with Bose’s QuietControl technology to provide active noise canceling. Users can switch modes with a button on the inline remote: Quiet Mode reduces surrounding sounds, Aware Mode boosts them, and ANC can also be turned off. Another microphone on the remote is designed to pick up the wearer’s voice during calls without being held close to the mouth.

The earbuds have a 4.2-foot cable ending in USB-C, with support for lossless audio and minimal latency when connected to smartphones and laptops. They carry an IPX4 water-resistance rating. The package includes a zippered case, three sizes of silicone eartips, and two sizes of stability wings.
