Apple’s new CEO may change when it launches phones and laptops

John Ternus, Apple’s new CEO, wants the company to launch products more often than its usual major releases in fall and spring, according to a Bloomberg report on his initial plans. Apple regularly holds iPhone launch events in September and often announces other products later in the year and in spring.

Bloomberg reports that Ternus believes Apple needs to introduce products faster and experiment more to remain competitive in the artificial intelligence era. The shift may take time because of Apple’s long-established development practices.

Apple is rumored to have several products in its pipeline, including a new HomePod Mini, iPad Mini, and Apple TV 4K, AirPods with cameras, touchscreen MacBooks, and a special 20th anniversary iPhone.

Ternus is also considering reducing the layers between engineers and senior executives. Bloomberg says the hardware engineering team dismissed “a number” of engineering program managers in the past two weeks. Those cuts follow layoffs on the Siri and Vision Pro teams that Bloomberg reported in August.

Apple also apparently considered laying off 5,000 AppleCare customer service staffers, but ultimately put those plans on hold, according to Bloomberg.
